	STATUS OF RICE BRAN OIL IN INDIA
	India is the second largest producer of rice in the world next to China, having potential to produce about 12 lakh tonnes of Rice Bran Oil per annum. Currently the industry is processing about35 lakh tonnes of Rice Bran Producing about 6.0 lakh tonnes of Refined Rice Bran Oil per annum, out of which 5.5 lakh tonnes is of edible grade and the balance 0.5 lakh is of non edible grade. In India, Rice Bran Oil is the most important oil among the non-conventional oils in terms of its potential to augment the availability of oils. Full realization of its potential would help in reducing the gap between demand & supply of indigenous edible oils in the Indian market. A lot of research has been carried out on this oil by National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad. Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, New Delhi. The Research Institutes in India & abroad have found this oil to be a “Heart Friendly – Health Oil” with unique properties beneficial for maintaining good health. In association with TMOP, CSIR, Ministries of Food Processsing and Food & Consumer Affairs, The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India(SEA) in its endeavour to popularize Rice Bran Oil as “Health Oil” has so far organized seven National Seminars and number of workshops to create “Consumer Awareness” all over the country in last six years.
	STATUS OF RICE BRAN OIL IN OTHER COUNTRIES
	Rice Bran Oil is extensively used in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan and Thailand as a “Premium Edible Oil”. In Japan, Rice Bran Oil is more popularly known as a “Heart Oil” In recent years, US Scientists have also shown a tremendous interest in the Cholesterol lowering properties of Rice Bran Oil. In Western countries, Rice Bran Oil has acquired the status of a “Health Food”.
